The Release Stock option allows the user to release stock that has been receipted and placed on temporary hold. This allows for inventory to be checked and released by specified users before it is added to available stock.
The Requires Release setting can be set at a few different levels in the system:
Stock Locations
If the stock location is configured as a "Requires Release" location, then all GRNs received into this location will be automatically need to be released. The locations can be configured via the List Maintenance section or Progress.
Part
If the part is configured as "Requires Release" then every GRN created for the part will automatically be set to need release. This is configured in the part itself.
Ind. Receipts
Individual receipts themselves can be marked as "Requires Release" regardless of stock location or part configuration. The user will have an option on all of the receipt screens to mark the individual GRN as "Requires Release".
When the stock is receipted the Stock Status for the part will show the new inventory with an Active status. However, it will also show a number in brackets that signifies that stock is waiting to be released. In this example there is a stock of 10 units available with all 10 requiring release.
To release this stock the user must go to Inventory > Release Stock. A new window will open detailing all stock that is available to be released. The user has a few options on the type of receipts they are shown, which they can use to help identify the stock they are looking for.
Selecting either of these options will update the grid to show the associated receipt types which are currently awaiting release.
Once identified, the user can select individual batch(s) by ticking the TICKBOX against each line, or click the column heading to select all listed items. The user also has the ability to change the stock location at this point to ascertain where the stock is located after being released.
Once the user has marked which GRNs are to be released, the simply click ACCEPT to release the stock. Once released, the stock can be used in the same way as other inventory available. The stock status will also change with the number in brackets disappearing/changing to reflect the change in the stock.
